The Lexus RX model line changed the game in how luxury crossovers should be built. More affordable than many of its competitors, the Lexus RX is as good as it gets for crossover SUVs. The RX or “Radiant Crossover” was introduced in 1997, with the RX400h debuting eight years later. As the RX is considered as the first luxury crossover SUV, the RX 400h is also a pioneer for luxury crossover hybrids.
The RX400h ended after the 2008 model year, being superseded by models like the RX450h and RX350. The 2008 Lexus RX400h was powered by a 3.3-liter hybrid V6 engine that produced a total output of 268 hp. Being the first production hybrid crossover SUV, it was rated at 26 mpg city and 24 mpg highway by the EPA. It could also tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. And in terms of cargo space, it provided a generous 38.3 cubic feet of capacity.
Lexus RX400h Standard Features
For the 2008 Lexus RX400h, you can choose between a front-wheel drive (FWD) model or all-wheel drive (AWD). Inside the RX400h, you get power front seats with power lumbar, a sliding center console with illuminated storage, carpet floor mats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel with audio, display, and cruise controls, a direct-type tire pressure monitoring system, automatic air-conditioning, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and an auto-retracting cargo area with an auxiliary power outlet.
Is the Lexus RX400h Fast?
According to a test by Car and Driver magazine, the 2006 Lexus RX400h managed a 0-to-60 mph time of 7.5 seconds, which is impressive for a production SUV at the time.
