If the Toyota RAV4 pioneered the crossover revolution, then the Lexus RX jumpstarted what is now the massively popular luxury crossover SUV segment. The Lexus RX450h was introduced in 2009, a little over a decade after the launch of the RX line. By this time, Lexus had already conquered a huge chunk of the luxury crossover market, and it was producing fuel-efficient hybrids that catered to emissions-conscious buyers especially from Europe. And in the US, the RX continued its stellar commercial success, routinely selling over 100,000 units annually.
The Lexus RX450h officially ended after the 2022 model year. It was powered by a 3.5-liter hybrid V6 engine capable of 308 hp and 247 pound-feet of torque. Amazingly, the luxury crossover’s performance doesn’t come at a sacrifice on fuel economy. The 2022 Lexus RX450h is rated by the EPA at 31 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, for 30 mpg combined. The midsize crossover also lets you tow as much as 3,500 pounds.
