The crankshaft takes the vertical motion of the engine pistons and converts it into rotary motion. That moves a belt attached to a pulley located on your rotor shaft. Inside the rotor shaft, magnetic coils get agitated by the motion and produce a magnetic field. That's then captured as AC power by a rectifier, which then converts it into the DC power your ES 350 sedan uses. A voltage regulator manages the power and uses it to charge the battery and operate such parts as your windows, wipers, entertainment system, and more.
